No Masters or Kings When the Ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
Take Me To Church, Hozier
Richard Morton Jameson (named after his grandfather and great-grandfather) is the only child born to single mother Karla Jameson. Karla was in the middle of Medical School at Harvard and on a vacation with her college friends to New Orleans to see the Mardi Gras when she was raped by a man named Jérôme Chevalier. However, despite having a rape kit, she didn't have enough to identify him with at the time. She fell pregnant as a result, and it began the hardest period of her life when she made the heart-wrenching decision to keep the baby.
Richard - known as Richie to most, or Dick if he's being a pain in the ass - was born and his mother struggled with Post-Natal Depression because of how he had been conceived. She struggled to connect with him, and she and Richie started to live with her parents and until Richie was about three, it was his grandparents who did most of the hands-on parenting while Karla returned to college in Boston. She went through a lot of therapy and soon began to adjust to the fact she was now a mother and Riche became her pride and joy.
It was Sands Point in New York that Richie grew up, and when he went to private high school, he met his best friend, Jeff Hinton. Richie was always a confident and smart little kid, and always looked a lot younger for his age than he was. His grandpa came from a long line of doctors, which is why his mother aimed high with Medical School and went to Harvard. His grandpa was a Professor in Medicine at Columbia and his grandmother a midwife. Them and his mother would ultimately be what paved Richie's own way to Med School. He was a popular kid with a wicked sense of humour. He knew how to have a joke, but it was only a very select few he ever confided in that he was the product of a rape. Jeff and his family knew, but they never judged him for it.
Richie was diagnosed with hemophilia when he was eight years old and copped an accidental baseball to the face a Little League. His nose and mouth were bleeding so severely that he needed a blood transfusion. He now occasionally experiences spontaneous bleeds from the nose, or if he gets even a minor cut or scape, the bleeding can lead to requiring medical attention. It was just three months after he met Jeff that poor Jeff got the fright of his life when Richie tripped up the stairs at school. He banged his head and nose, and it was like a scene from a massacre. Jeff thought he was dying, and Richie would forever feel bad he forgot to tell his friend about his medical condition, though he now understands probably as well as Richie himself. He has various internal bleeds over the course of his life, but they are few and far between. The only time he has ever been sensitive about it was when a stupid kid mixed it up with "hermaphrodite" and called him a "she-male". Richie punched him in the face and got detention for it.
As to the fact he's a product of rape, Richie's mom told him this when he was about 14 and started to understand what sex was. He kind of received a more complex version of The Talk when his mom went on to explain that even though sex can be fun, some evil people use it as a way to hurt people. He understood it more as he got older, and that was when he asked his mom to have a DNA test because he wanted to know who his father was. She was reluctant, told him DNA didn't confirm anything when it happened, but i the end, agreed on the basis that if he ever crossed his father's path, she wanted him to be safe. For a long time, Richie didn't know how he felt, but ultimately just decided he was glad to be given life and glad he had an amazing mom who went through hell to give it to him, when no one would've blamed her if she hadn't.
Richie discovered his father was Jérôme Chevalier, and his DNA was now recorded because he was a murder victim, killed by his wife who had Battered Woman Syndrome after long surviving his domestic violence. He had three other children, one being Lorenzo Chevalier, whom was also in New York when Richie tracked him down. In New York and dating a completely crazy chick, who Richie was also able to find out by stalking a mental health support group (thinking maybe it was Lorenzo who was ill). He just happened to go to a meeting where she was off her face and Richie got understandably spooked and shelved the idea of trying to approach his brother at that point.
Being smart and loving school, Richie aced his grades and, like his mom, ended up receiving early acceptance into Harvard Medical School. And because he's still suffering the infliction of looking younger than he is, earned the nickname "Doogie Howser" off his classmates. He worked his bum off, and while he was there, met another good friend and film student, Callum MacDonald. He has no graduated and because he wanted to go back home to New York, scored his Residency in Neonatal and Pediatric Medicine at Mount Sinai under supervisor, Nathan Mitchell, and just moved into a pint-sized apartment with Jeff. Richie is shamelessly gay, and has never been anything else. He was never subjected to any judgement or negativity from his family, and they were just happy as long as he is. Richie is currently single, and thinks he's looking, but not really sure.
